Colon cancer, also called colorectal cancer, strikes slightly more men than women.

In 2014, about 16,980 Australians are expected to be diagnosed with bowel cancer (9,250 in men and 7,730 in women). An estimated 19,960 are expected to be diagnosed in 2020. It begins with an abnormal polyp on the inner lining of the colon and early detection may help in avoiding it to spread, causing life-threatening issues in the future. Sometimes there are no symptoms associated with colon cancer, which is why routine screening is recommended for people between ages 50 and 75. Colonic (closed method) hydrotherapy, herbal medicine and diet are all good preventatives.

Here are 11 symptoms you should never ignore even if they seem unrelated to cancer:

1. Take note of any changes in bowel habits, especially if they occur suddenly and don’t seem to go away. Constipation indicates a bowel obstruction when the problem is persistent. A growth in the colon can cause the obstruction.
2. Blood in the stool is one of the common colon cancer symptoms. The colour could be red, purplish (this can be beetroot) or maroon-like. Black, tarry stools are also signs. Don’t assume the blood is from another disorder you have, such as haemorrhoid problems.

3.
Diarrohea is a symptom of colon cancer if it occurs frequently and you notice the changes suddenly. Frequent abdominal pain and gas may also occur.

4
. Narrow stools indicate a partially blocked colon caused by an enlarged polyp, especially if this continues.

5. Abdominal pain signals a variety of problems. But persistent pain along with weight loss and a poor appetite indicates colon cancer. Cramps and bloating can occur once in a while because of changes in eating habits. But persistent pain, especially for no reason, could warn you of colon cancer.

7. A feeling that your bowel doesn’t empty completely suggests elimination hasn’t occurred because of blockage.

8.Excessive fatigue is among the colon cancer symptoms for men. It occurs because the cancer cells cause the body to feel exhausted. See a medical professional if you still feel tired after a long night’s sleep.

9. Weakness is different from fatigue. You don’t necessarily feel run down, but your body doesn’t feel as strong as it once did when performing simple tasks. It might be from cancer cell activity.

10. Unexpected weight loss and poor appetite result from cancer. It could be colon cancer or other cancer symptoms.

11.
Shortness of breath can occur from colon cancer because of other difficulties that slow the body down,
